Blogging and growing as a writer is such a process. For so long I was very impatient with that process. I was not content with just writing, sharing, and letting the content I was birthing to speak for itself.
However, recently I let go of trying to shortcut my way through this process and I have learned and grown so much. Life is similar to writing; we can either find shortcuts or we can go through the process and learn somethings along the way.
Right now I am in college and I could easily find a way to do just enough to get by. I am definitely learning that I don’t always have time to read my weekly readings but I do find time to read the important parts. However, with college, as it is with life, we can always look for ways to do whatever needs to be done in order to pass the class or get through life. But one of the things I learned in one of my first college courses was that the people who are successful in college are the ones who actually are there to learn and not just to pass the test and to get good grades. In fact, the most successful students are the ones who don’t worry about the grades and they just come to class ready to learn!
I am a strong believer that with writing we need to realize that it’s a process and the best way to have fun during that process is to soak up all the learning opportunities you can. I feel like it’s no different from anything else in life, including being a Christian. That’s why I started Becoming Press, it has always been about the journey of our faith, and enjoying the process of life and walking out our faith in Christ. I think the most faithful Christians are the ones who realize that this journey is a process; and when we come to learn more about Jesus and our faith that’s when we do our best!
Three lessons I have learned about enjoying this writing journey:
- Dream then do.We need to do the work that comes with birthing this dream that we have. It’s not always going to be fun, and it might not be happening as quickly as one might like. It might seem like an incredibly impossible or difficult goal to achieve. But when we are doing the work we are always moving one step towards that goal, but if we don’t enjoy the process then we will soon realize that we missed out on a lot in this life.
- We need to make difficult choices. We need to make sure that our priorities are in line with more than just our dreams and our goals. Let’s not forget why we started this writing journey in the first place. When I first started blogging 12 years ago I started because I wanted to stay at home with my children while also offering encouragement to other stay at home moms. But soon my goals and my dreams overshadowed my purpose for even starting to blog in the first place. Sometimes in our writing we need to make those difficult choices to keep our mission and purpose our focus and it’s so easy to get off track.
- We need to understand that writing and blogging is not easy.Blogging every week causes me to make a sacrifice in my time, but now that I am able to enjoy the process I enjoy sitting down to write every week. If I don’t write, I feel like something is missing in my life. But even then that doesn’t make the sacrifice any easier. There are a lot of writing things on my to-do list and I need to understand that this process is not always going to be easy.
We need to allow room for growth in this process; room four ourselves to grow, and room for others to grow, too. My word for the year is grace and I have had to show myself a lot of grace during this writing journey. I guess this week I would just like to encourage all writers to give themselves a little grace; and to dream and then do what you can today to move one step toward that writing dream or goal that you have. But most of all, I want to encourage you to enjoy the process and this journey towards your goal because a lot of times your days are going to be filled with the process instead of the achievements you are working towards.

In this four week mini Bible Study you will examine your faith and what it means to have faith in God. When we believe in God we then learn to walk in faith and trust God. But first we must believe, and it’s up to us, we can either choose to believe in Him or not. But faith will mean nothing until we believe with all our heart that God is who He says He is.
5 STAR AMAZON REVIEW: “I really enjoyed this mini study. I like when things make you think and journal and you can focus on one aspect at a time. It was a great study.”
